Basketball WA Appoints Fabian Ross as CEO

Basketball Western Australia (Basketball WA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Fabian Ross as Chief Executive Officer, on a full-time basis, following a brief period in an Interim capacity. The decision to appoint Mr Ross was ratified by the Basketball WA Board this week and follows a national recruitment process.

Mr Ross brings a wealth of leadership experience within the Western Australian business and sporting communities, having most recently served as CEO of Hockey WA. During his tenure, he was instrumental in driving record sponsorships, connecting the sport with government stakeholders, and securing Perth as the long-term home of Australia’s high-performance hockey program.

In addition to his contributions to sport, Mr Ross has held senior executive roles in the financial services sector, including as CEO of WA Super and positions with BT Financial Group, Government Employees Superannuation Fund (GESB) and HBOS Australia. He also serves on several boards, including as Chair of MG Kailis Holdings, and as a member of the WA Institute of Sport (WAIS) board.

Chair of Basketball WA, Dr Kyle Hoath, said Fabian brings an unparalleled blend of corporate, government and sports administration experience to the CEO role, at a time when basketball is experiencing rapid growth.

“We are delighted to welcome Fabian as CEO. His extensive leadership experience, strategic acumen and relationships with our important stakeholders, including government, will be invaluable as we continue to expand the sport in Western Australia.

“Fabian’s track record at Hockey WA, including his ability to help secure significant government funding for critical infrastructure, was a determining factor in appointing him CEO on a full-time basis.

Fabian said his enthusiasm for the role was underpinned by the challenge of ensuring the infrastructure and resources required for basketball to continue to thrive, keep pace with its growth trajectory in WA.

“Basketball continues to grow at a rapid rate, and I am excited by the prospect of broadening its access to more Western Australians, at all levels. I look forward to working with the Board, staff, the Associations and stakeholders to build upon the organisation’s successes and to drive further growth and inclusivity in the sport.”

Mr Ross’s appointment is effective as of 7 July 2025.
