Elizabeth Woods (24/05/1960) began her involvement with Basketball WA in 1989, when she was recruited by John Gardiner and Greg Gurr to coordinate scoretable officials for the newly formed State Basketball League (SBL). The following year, she became a founding member of the National Scoretable Committee.
Joining the Council of Basketball WA in 1992, Woods remained a Council member until 2006. She was elected to the Basketball WA Executive Committee in 1996 and served as Vice President between 1997 and 2002. She then served as President from 2002 until 2011, at which time under the new Basketball WA Constitution, she was appointed to the position of Chair of the Basketball WA Board.
Woods stepped down from her position as Chair of Basketball WA in 2014 after being appointed to the Board of Basketball Australia. She had previously served on the Basketball Australia Board in 2006, remaining on the Board until November 2008 when the NBL and Basketball Australia merged to form a new company structure.
In 2005, Woods became a FIBA Technical Commissioner, and as of 2020, she remained Chair of Basketball Australia’s National Scoretable Committee. As one of Australia’s leading scoretable officials, she officiated the 1994 FIBA World Championship for Women and the Gold Medal game at the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
Woods was awarded life membership to Basketball WA in 1999, the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and Basketball WA Volunteer of the Year Award in 2002. In 2021, she was one of 11 inaugural inductees into the Basketball WA Hall of Fame.
