Basketball WA is pleased to announce the following appointments to their 2016 State teams as follows:
Under 20 Men’s Team
Brad Samuelson (Rockingham) has been appointed Head Coach of the U20 Men’s team, and Chris Spitty (Rockingham) will be Team Manager – what a team!!
Both Brad and Chris led the U20 Men’s team to a successful campaign in 2015 and hope to achieve better results this time around.
Under 20 Women’s Team
These positions have been re-advertised, with Expressions of Interests being invited. The closing date is Friday 18 September 2015.
Ivor Burge Men’s Team
Chris Saligari (Kalamunda & Districts) has again been appointed Head Coach of the Ivor Burge Men’s team for another year, having some success with her teams previously. Her commitments to ensuring her players have the best chance possible to compete at an Australian Junior Championships level is to be admired.
The Under 20/Ivor Burge Australian Junior Championships will be held in Ipswich QLD from 14 to 20 February 2016.
Under 18 Metro and Country Men’s and Women’s State Teams
Dan Donaldson (Stirling) will head up the U18 Metro Men’s team. He assisted Rob Beveridge with last year’s 2015 U18 metro men’s team, with some success. His experience and expertise will be of immense assistance to the Basketball WA State team program.
Brian Lawrie (Joondalup) returns for his second year in charge of a State team, this time it’s the U18 Metro Women’s team. Brian’s experience and knowledge will stand him in good stead as he leads this team to aspire to a better result than in previous years.
Country stalwart Scott Rubery (Geraldton) will take the reins of the U18 Country Men’s team. Rubery is another coach who has a wealth of experience, having played and won at SBL level. Rubery is sure to put together a hard-nosed competitive Country team.
Rounding out the appointments is Craig Watts (Pinjarra) who returns for his fifth year in charge of the U18 Country Women’s team. Watts has been instrumental in building the women’s program up in his previous four outings and will be looking to continue with this trend as he prepares his team for the Championships.
The U/18 Australian Junior Championships will be held in Adelaide SA from 16-23 April 2016.
Note: The date of the U18 Country Men’s trials has been changed. Trials for this age group will now take place at Cockburn Basketball’s Wally Hagan Stadium from 1pm to 5pm on Saturday 31 October and on Sunday 1 November at Bendat Basketball Centre from 9am-12pm.
