Basketball WA CEO Nathan Cave retirement. Interim CEO Appointed as Recruitment Process Commences.

Basketball WA today announces that Chief Executive Officer Nathan Cave has made the decision to step down from his role for personal reasons.

Nathan has served as CEO since 2023, leading a period of strong growth and transformation for the organisation. During his tenure, Basketball WA has modernised key systems, delivered record breaking events including the NBL1 Grand Final at RAC Arena, and strengthened its partnerships across the sport.

Nathan will remain with the organisation until 28 June 2025 to support a smooth transition and ensure continuity during this period.

To maintain momentum and provide steady leadership while the recruitment process for a new CEO is underway, the Board has appointed Fabian Ross as Interim CEO, effective 12 May 2025. Fabian joins Basketball WA following a successful tenure as CEO of Hockey WA and brings extensive leadership experience within the WA sporting community.

Chair of Basketball WA, Dr Kyle Hoath, said:

“Nathan has been instrumental in repositioning Basketball WA as a modern organisation, and we sincerely thank him for his leadership and commitment. We are also pleased to welcome Fabian Ross as Interim CEO. His experience and calm, strategic leadership will be invaluable as we continue to grow the sport and finalise the recruitment of our next CEO.”

The Board has commenced an executive search, with a recruitment partner to be appointed shortly. Expressions of interest for the CEO role will be invited in the coming weeks.
