Basketball WA is thrilled to be partnering with Basketball Australia and the state government to deliver the Australian Boomers to Perth basketball fans.
It was announced the Boomers would play two World Cup qualifying games in Perth against Guam and the Philippines.
It will be the first time the Boomers have played in Perth since 2019 and the first time ever, they’ll be playing for FIBA points.
Basketball Chief Executive Matt Scriven said it was clear Western Australia had a thriving basketball community.
“As we look ahead to some of the most important years in Australian men’s basketball, including the 2027 FIBA World Cup in Qatar, the Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games, it is vital for the Boomers to play in front of their fans across the country and there is no stronger fanbase than Perth.”
Basketball WA Chairman Dr Kyle Hoath said the Boomers coming to play in Perth showed the tremendous growth of basketball in W.A.
“We’re incredibly excited to be welcoming the Boomers here in July. Basketball has seen a massive spike in WA and despite competition from other sports we have more than 66,000 members and more than 84,000 registered players.”
“It’s wonderful to see one of those players who grew up in the BWA system at one of our local associations and now the Wildcats, Ben Henshall, representing Australia.”
Basketball Australia will tour trailblazing program She Hoops with an exclusive clinic for aspiring young female basketball stars, while members of the Boomers roster will participate in extended community activity whilst in Perth.
Pre sale tickets are available for BWA members via the email sent on Friday.
