Basketball WA is proud to announce a new partnership with The Perth Mint that will see the West Australian government-owned organisation support grassroots basketball in the Goldfields and Mid West, and become the presenting partner of the Basketball WA Volunteer Awards.

It’s the first formal partnership between the two organisations following several years of collaboration through the Basketball WA Awards Night, where The Perth Mint medallions have long been presented to award recipients.

The partnership will bring dedicated exposure to basketball communities in the Goldfields and Mid-West, home to some of Western Australia’s most significant gold mining regions, with The Perth Mint featuring in bespoke content celebrating the game and the people who make it possible in each region.

The partnership also reflects a shared connection to regional Western Australia. Basketball WA and The Perth Mint both have strong ties to communities across the Goldfields and Mid-West, where mining continues to play a significant role in local economies and community life. Through its longstanding relationship with Western Australia’s gold industry, The Perth Mint supports the broader value and legacy created by the state’s regional mining sector, making the partnership a natural fit.

Basketball WA Chief Executive Officer Fabian Ross said the partnership was a fitting way to formalise a relationship that had already given so much to the basketball community.

“We are proud to have The Perth Mint join us as an official partner for our BWA Volunteer Awards and our regional development program.”

“This partnership gives us a genuine platform to celebrate basketball in the Goldfields and Mid-West, regions with a proud gold mining history, and where our game continues to grow.”

As part of the partnership, The Perth Mint will become the presenting partner of the Basketball WA Volunteer Awards, a category dedicated to recognising the unsung heroes of WA basketball – the administrators, coaches and volunteers who keep the sport running across the state.

The WA Volunteer of the Year will be presented with a quarter-ounce gold bullion coin at this year’s Awards Night.

The Perth Mint Chief Executive Officer Paul Graham said the partnership highlighted the organisation’s commitment to supporting regional Western Australian communities.

“The Goldfields and Mid-West are home to many of the communities that have helped shape Western Australia’s gold industry, and those communities continue to play an important role in our state’s success,” Mr Graham said.
