BWA Board Nominations 2020

Nominations open for Board of Directors 2020

Basketball WA is seeking nominations from people wanting to stand for election for three of the five Elected Director positions on our seven-member Board.

These are voluntary positions for a term of two years.

The Board of Basketball WA values a diversity of people, relevant skills and experience among its members. In particular, we are currently seeking members who can think strategically and might possess legal skills, commercial skills or governance skills.

Basketball WA supports the Case for Change to recognise leadership of women in sport.

Nominees may submit a written statement of not more than 200 words outlining their background, relevant skills and any policies or matters they would like to pursue if elected.

Your nomination will need to be submitted through an Affiliated Association and be received by the Basketball WA CEO Rob Clement at rob.clement@basketballwa.asn.au by 5pm, 17 March 2020.

All nominees will be subject to review by the Basketball WA Nominations Committee.

Successful nominees will:

  • be enthusiastic in pursuing our mission of getting more people playing basketball everywhere, from shooting hoops in the streets to the Olympics
  • take an active interest in Basketball WA’s strategic planning and direction
  • be prepared to attend all Board meetings (11-12 per year)
  • be an attentive, engaged, inquisitive and collaborative Board member
  • contribute to the individual and collective strengths and diversity of the Board, and
  • be prepared to challenge ideas to bring out the best in the Board’s decision-making.

About Basketball WA

Basketball WA (BWA) is the peak body for basketball in Western Australia. It is a constituent association member of Basketball Australia.

Basketball has a large and enthusiastic following in WA:

  • Ausplay statistics indicate that approximately 125,000 Western Australians regularly play competitive basketball.
  • More than 50,000 people participated in BWA-affiliated organised basketball competitions in 2019, involving 78 affiliated member associations.
  • 34% of these participants are female and 66% are male.
  • More than 5,000 teams play representative club basketball each week in more than 30 venues across Perth, Peel and the South West.
  • There are more than 18,000 players registered to 65 affiliated country associations.

The Board of Basketball WA has primary responsibility for the growth, sustainability and relevance of basketball in WA by guiding and monitoring its strategic plan.

The Board is a strategic, dynamic and collegiate Board committed to growing basketball activity in Western Australia.

Our vision is that basketball is established as the sport of choice for Western Australians; and that basketball is seen as a vehicle for social good, impacting the lives of all Western Australians by helping them achieve social, sporting and community goals.
