Australian Deaflympics Tryouts

Preparations for the 2013 Deaflympics are well under way with the Australian men’s and women’s teams to be finalised in the coming months.

Sofia, Bulgaria will host the 2013 Deaflympics where Australia’s men’s (Goannas) and women’s (Geckos) teams will battle it out for the chance to take home a medal.

For the Goannas and Geckos the opportunity to compete in Bulgaria will be a historic moment for Australia, as this will be the first time a team from our shores has participated in basketball at the Deaflympics.

With less than year before the tournament in Europe, governing body Deaf Basketball Australia is wasting no time trying to unearth the stars of our men’s and women’s teams, with the selection process getting under way next month.

The two-day selection camp is open to all deaf basketballers with the opportunity to book a ticket to Bulgaria as part of the Australian team on the line.

The selection camp will be held on 13-14 October 2012 at the Emerson School in outer Melbourne suburb of Dandenong.
