Australian Head Coaches Visit WA

Basketball WA National Intensive Training Program (NITP) athletes and coaches have had a busy end to 2013 and a big start to 2014 with both National team head coaches visiting to work with coaches and athletes.

Late in 2013 NBL Championship winning Coach & new Australian Boomers Head Coach Andrej Lemanis was in town for the third NITP camp on November 30 – December 1.

Lemanis worked with the 55 metro and country athletes over the two days, incorporating the new direction he is taking with the Australian Men’s program into the sessions.

At the following camp held at the start of February, NBL Championship winning coach and new Australian Opals Head Coach Brendan Joyce visited to run a number of on-court sessions with the group.

Joyce also visited the West Coast Waves WNBL program, and spent time with a number of athletes in the Australian junior and senior squads as well as coaching at the fourth NITP camp.

The Opals coach took the athletes through a number of sessions over the two days, focusing on the new philosophies that the Australian Women’s program are incorporating into their program.

“It is not often that you receive visits from both National coaches, especially in the same time frame” Basketball WA High performance Manager Brett Coxsedge commented.

“What a great opportunity for our athletes and coaching staff to learn from two of the best coaches in the business!”
