Basketball WA is pleased to announce a two year partnership with Containers for Change that will see far-reaching benefits not only across metropolitan WA but throughout the regions.
Containers for Change have a strong relationship with WA basketball through the Perth Wildcats, and will further strengthen that connection through BWA’s broader basketball community.
Joining forces with Containers for Change will give WA’s basketball community easier access to resources, to help fundraise and grow club initiatives, no matter the geographical setting.
Basketball WA Chief Executive Fabian Ross said the partnership with Containers for Change was particularly significant for regional Western Australia and their local initiatives.
“As Containers for Change look to grow their recycling containers returns scheme throughout the regions, we saw a great opportunity to work with them to facilitate further growth in our great game across Western Australia as well.” Ross said.
“Investing in the regions is crucial as we look to expand our reach and strengthen capability to achieve long term financial and operational sustainability, in line with our strategic objectives.”
Containers for Change will also be a major supporter of Basketball WA’s EmpowerHer program, which is going into its third year, providing a platform for female engagement both on and off the court.
“EmpowerHer has continued to grow each year, and with Containers for Change backing this important initiative, we’re confident that momentum will accelerate – positioning the program as a leading platform for young women aspiring to build a future in sport.”
WA Return Recycle Renew Limited CEO Tim Cusack said working with community groups, sporting clubs and schools was more important than ever to increase Containers for Change participation and as a fundraising tool for grass roots clubs.
“As the container deposit scheme coordinator in WA, we’ve seen first-hand the impact that Containers for Change has on raising important funds for community groups, sporting clubs and schools.” Cusack said.
“To date, $20 million has been donated since the scheme first began in 2019.”
“It can mean upgrading facilities and equipment for clubs and providing team bonding and educational opportunities for club members.”
“We would like to see every sporting club in WA participating in Containers for Change. To help facilitate this growth, WARRRL will provide up to $250 in Containers for Change resources to all grassroots clubs interested in participating”
Containers for Change will also be involved during Everyone’s Game Carnivals throughout the year, providing fundraising resources for athletes and clubs.
