Officials Breakfast – Friday 21 October 2011 – Polly Farmer Room, Patersons Stadium

Netball Australia’s Director of Umpiring Chris Burton OAM will be in Perth in October as part of the Netball Australia International Holden Netball Series and has scheduled in breakfast with you. Having represented Australia at international level and several world championships, and working with renowned coaches such as Joyce Brown and Jill McIntosh, Chris has a wealth of experience, knowledge and insight into the expectations and qualities required to be a coach, official and player at all levels.

Chris will present on:

• Strategies used by Netball Australia to develop a positive game environment at all levels.
• Prevention rather than cure – how to decrease the angst of the athlete.
• Getting players to know you as a person – so you don’t need to do anything at game time other than officiate!
Chris will also delve into some current ‘hot topics’ of officiating including:
• Officiating vs coaching during competition.
• Developing officials in a ‘competition’ environment – when to push them up the next level.
Chris travelled with the Diamonds in 2011 and will share how this experience has assisted her in her role.
