Junior Athletes Selected in Australian Squads

Two WA athletes have been announced in the Australian Under 17’s Men’s squad for the 2015 FIBA Oceania U16 Championships.

Jamie Hepburn (Joondalup) and Jhonny Lutula (Joondalup) were both announced in the squad. Both are also current members of Basketball WA’s National Intensive Training Program (NITP).

The Under 17’s campaign will consist of two training camps in preparation for the FIBA Oceania Championship in Wellington New Zealand from 14 to 19 August 2015.

The first camp will consist of an extended squad of 24 and will be held at the Churchill Leisure Centre, Victoria from Friday 12 June to Monday 15 June, 2015. The second camp will see the extended squad reduced to 16 and is scheduled to take place at Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence, Canberra from Friday 17 July to Monday 20 July, 2015.

Meanwhile, Rhys Vague (2015 U20 WA State team player) has also been included in a 15-man squad to take part in the Airbnb Australian Emus camp as preparations for the June Under-19 FIBA World Championships continue to build.

Running from May 25-28 at the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence in Canberra, selectors will use the camp to choose a final squad of 12. That team will represent Australia in Crete at the World Championships where they will face Italy, Canada and Tunisia in the group stage.

Basketball WA congratulates all athletes on their selection into the squads and wish them well for the upcoming camps.
