The Smarter than Smoking Kalamunda Association Cup was held at Ray Owen Sports Centre on Wednesday, 18 June.

Hosted by Basketball WA and sponsored by Healthway through the Smarter than Smoking message, the tournament engages with Primary School children in an association setting.

Each Association has an Association Cup with schools receiving a Smarter than Smoking Basketball Clinic to prepare them for the carnival. The winners of all the Association Cups come together each year for the Champion Schools Cup.

The Kalamunda Cup had 20 teams form six schools compete on the day in both boys and girls competitions.

The Grand Final result saw Midvale Primary School defeat Middle Swan Primary School 6-4. The game was a nail-biter with Middle Swan having three attempts down the stretch to tie it up, but fell just short.

In the Boys Grand Final Swan Christian College defeated Middle Swan Primary School 25-15.

Despite going down in both games Middle Swan Primary school were acknowledged for showing outstanding sportsmanship throughout the day.

Term three will see four Smarter than Smoking Association Cups with Rockingham (August 13), East Perth (August 19), East Perth (August 20) and Wanneroo (August 28).
