Life Membership – Mike Bussell

Basketball WA would like to congratulate the newest recipient of Life Membership, Mike Bussell. Mike joined this elite group at the Annual Basketball WA Dinner on Saturday night at Burswood on Swan.

Below is the transcript of the speech made by Basketball WA Executive Member and long time Operations Manager John Gardner.

Mike has been involved with basketball since the late 1960’s as a player and administrator. All of those 40 odd years have been spent at the Perry Lakes Basketball Stadium.

In 1985 Mike undertook the administration and development of the Perry Lakes Junior Competition and has been instrumental in building the competition to over 220 teams.

He also founded the Junior High School competition for girls.

In 1995 Mike assumed the Administrator’s role for the senior competition at the Perry Lakes Stadium and soon after took on the duties of Stadium Manager.

In this role, he has been of invaluable service to BWA and to all who have used the stadium. Mike has often been associated with three generations of families at the stadium.

His ever-present and obliging administration of the stadium has been to the benefit of players, coaches and administrators of metropolitan and country, junior and seniors alike.

BWA State Teams, SBL and WABL Clubs, the Perth Lynx and Perth Wildcats, have all relied upon Mike in his roles for basketball.

It is fitting that in the year that the iconic stadium closes down, we bestow the honour of life membership on Mike Bussell.
