MEDIA RELEASE – BASKETBALL WA BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

BASKETBALL WA FAREWELLS JENNIFER RIATTI, APPOINTS FIONA NOTLEY AS CHAIR OF THE BOARD AND ELECTS CASSANDRA WRIGHT AND SANDRA RICHES (DEPUTY).

Basketball WA wishes to advise the members that the Board recently appointed newly elected Director Fiona Notley as Chair of the Board.

Fiona Notley is Curtin University’s Chief Operating Officer; an integral member of Curtin University’s leadership team whose portfolio includes human resources, health and safety, compliance and risk, information technology, facilities management, and property development.

Fiona has 21 years’ experience in the higher education sector; prior to joining Curtin University in 2018, Fiona held diverse roles at Murdoch University, including Academic Council and Senate terms. She is an active member of the Association for Tertiary Education Management, a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and holds a Master of Business Administration.

Fiona’s passion for basketball began as a junior player and since 2012 has seen her involved in active committee membership, coaching and management for several domestic basketball clubs. Prior to joining Basketball WA, Fiona actively served on the Willetton Basketball Association Board, providing governance and strategy leadership.

The other Directors who were reappointed to the Board at the 2022 AGM for a further two years were Cassandra Wright and Sandra Riches (Deputy Chair), they will join Stephen Bezant and Phil Nixon to complete the five elected Directors to the Board.

Sandra Riches is a digital strategist with experience in digital strategy / governance.  Working with large corporates and government agencies. Since 2000 in the UK and Perth Sandra has worked in Digital, including CEO of one of Perth’s most successful digital agencies. She has served on the BWA board since 2019, helping guide the alignment of strategies to objectives set out in the BWA strategic plans. Sandra has also taken on the role of Deputy Chair.

Cassandra Wright is a Senior In-House Counsel working across Australia and New Zealand for a global facility management services organisation and have practiced as a Lawyer for 19 years. She is experienced in commercial and contract law, litigation, dispute management and governance. She has been a BWA Board Member since April 2020. Prior to that she was chairperson of the Combat Sports Commission for two and a half years. She is particularly focused on building healthier and safer sporting communities whilst making sports accessible to all members of the community.

BASKETBALL FAREWELLS JENNIFER RIATTI
Basketball WA wishes to thank Jennifer Riatti for her excellent leadership and contribution to the sport of Basketball. Jennifer has been a Board Member of BWA since July 2016. During her time on the Board the organisation has doubled in size, is now present in seven regions around Western Australia, has grown to 58,000 registered participants and is the fastest growing sport for kids under fifteen years of age, as well as integrating the Perth Lynx and Wheelchair basketball.

Jennifer became Acting Chair of BWA in December 2021 when the previous Chair Keith Dunlap had to retire due to ill health. We sincerely thank Jennifer for willingly stepping in and doing a fantastic job of steering the organisation through a challenging time. We wish Jennifer well for the future and know she will enjoy travelling and nights in front of the open fireplace. Basketball has been the beneficiary of Jennifer’s wisdom and leadership.
