Referee Opportunities- Wheelchair Sports WA

Basketball WA (BWA) would like to encourage all of its level 1, 2 and 3 referees to take part in a personal development opportunity being provided by Wheelchair Sports WA (WSWA). Run over a series of weeknights, BWA and WSWA will be running a number of workshops for officials interested in learning more about wheelchair basketball.

The workshops will take place on weeknight evenings with referees being paid for their time.

With both the Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball League and Men’s National Wheelchair Basketball League both getting ready to start for season 2011, there are genuine opportunities for referees to officiate in these National Leagues and these workshops will be used to select referees for both leagues.

Men’s National Wheelchair Basketball referees and Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball referees are paid at rates comparable to SBL. All games run a 3-man system where you will be partnered up with leading Australian and internationally qualified referees. At a state level, wheelchair basketball runs a 2-man system with pay rates set in line with metropolitan domestic competition rates.

BWA would like to add that we are fully supportive of wheelchair basketball in Perth and would like to see as many referees as possible learn about this exciting new opportunity. Please also note that refereeing wheelchair basketball will not affect future WABL or SBL appointments.

The workshops will take place on Monday nights, from June 13th, starting at 6:00pm at the Herb Graham Recreation Centre.

Please contact either Vlad, Joel or Rod on the details below, and also please note that you DO NOT have to attend every Monday night.
