SBL Coaches invited to Mitchell Address

In another opportunity for coach development, Basketball WA has decided to open invite all current SBL and WSBL Coaches and Assistant Coaches to attend the upcoming talk and presentation to be conducted by Western Force Coach John Mitchell.

Mitchell’s address, to be conducted at the new Western Australian Basketball Centre, will involve covering areas such as player development, player management and philosophies of another discipline of sport while also providing insight into personal coaching approaches that may assist attending coaches in balancing the demands and commitment of running SBL programs while balancing work, family and other aspects of life.

The Western Force supremo is well versed to pass on his experiences and advice on the trials, tribulations and joys of coaching having been the Force’s current coach since their inception to the Super 14 competition in 2006. Previously, Mitchell also served as the Head Coach of the New Zealand All Blacks Rugby team from 2001-2003. He also played and captained the All Blacks before turning his hand to coaching.

SBL General Manager CJ Jackson welcomed the opportunity for SBL coaches to attend.

"This is an excellent opportunity to learn from one of WA’s top coaches. Coach Mitchell does have a background in basketball and it will be interesting to learn some of the coaching dialect from another code. We welcome Coach Mitchell and hope the coaches in attendance will gain valuable information from his presentation."

Coaches wishing to attend are asked to email vlad.alava@basketballwa.asn.au before Wednesday 21 to confirm their attendance.
