SBL hits finals mode

The State Basketball League has confirmed the 2010 Quarter Finals schedule for both the Women’s & Men’s competitions.

The quarter finals are a best of three series with game one being played on the weekend of July 23 & 24 at the lower ranked team’s home venue. The higher ranked team hosts games two and three (if necessary) over the weekend of July 30, July 31 and August 1.

Basketball WA Operations Manager CJ Jackson is thrilled with the excitement of the regular season and the outstanding finals match-ups in the road the Grand Final.

“We have seen one of our closest competitions on record in 2010 with an abundance of quality teams not making the finals. Both competitions are represented strongly with National league players, quality US imports and the best local talent that WA has to offer..”

The Women’s quarter final match-ups are:

  • Willetton (1) vs. Lakeside (8)
  • Rockingham (2) vs. Wanneroo (7)
  • Perry Lakes (3) vs. Mandurah (6)
  • Perth (4) vs. East Perth (5)

The Men’s quarter final match-ups are:

  • Lakeside (1) vs. East Perth (8)
  • Willetton (2) vs. Goldfields (7)
  • Geraldton (3) vs. Perry Lakes (6)
  • Perth (4) vs. Wanneroo (5)

Jackson also believes that the SBL is heading into an exciting phase with the 2010 Grand Finals set to be played at the brand new $40 million WA Basketball Centre.

“The WA Basketball Centre is a world class facility and we hope to fill the 2,000 seat venue for both Grand Finals as our great league enters an exciting new phase in its history. The sport is growing nationally and the SBL is certainly moving forward as well.”

The 2010 Grand Finals will be played on Friday August 20 (Women) and Saturday August 21 (Men) with tickets bound to be in high demand for this historic event.

A full schedule is available in the Fixtures/Results menu. You can also view your teams path to the grand final by viewing the "Road to the Grand Final" page.
