WA Women claim silver medal

The Under 20 WA State Women’s team wrapped up a successful National Championship in Dandenong this past weekend winning a silver medal after being defeated by Victoria in the final.

Under the guidance of Head Coach Ryan Petrik (Rockingham), the Women amassed a 5-3 record for the week, dropping round games to Victoria and NSW. In the semi-final, WA were able to reverse a one-point loss to NSW which saw them set up a rematch with the strong Victorian team. Unfortunately Victoria showed their class in the final to run out winners.

In the Men’s side of the Tournament, WA can consider themselves unlucky not to have been playing off for a medal after some strong performances in the round games which included a 16-point win over eventual Bronze medal winners NSW. However with a medal being unattainable, the boys won their final game of the Tournament beating QLD 85-55 to finish in fifth place.

In the Ivor Burge Competition, the WA Men battled hard all week under the guidance of Head Coach Chris Saligari. Whilst they were unable to record a victory on court, the boys were more than competitive in all games. A highlight for the team was David Rulyancich winning the Slam Dunk Competition at half-time of the U20 Men’s Final.

Basketball WA would like to congratulate all players and staff on their efforts throughout the Tournament.
