West Coast Waves roll in to Geraldton

The Alcohol. Think Again West Coast Waves are taking their next home game on the road, hosting their exciting round seven match against Adelaide Link Lightning in Geraldton on Saturday 20 November.

The game is bound to be an exciting on-court battle, with the Waves eager to claim the win after losing their first encounter against Adelaide by nine points in round two.

As the only WA based team in the WNBL, the Waves are representative of the entire state and therefore place priority on taking their games to the regions.

Made possible through the Department of Sport and Recreation’s Country Sport Enrichment Scheme, Geraldton was selected as the host of this year’s regional game following successful events in Albany and Kalgoorlie during previous years.

On the upcoming home game hosted in Geraldton, Waves Head Coach David Herbert said: “We represent the whole state but play most of our games in Perth, so it’s great to be able to take a game to country WA.”

“It’s a good opportunity to be able to share our home game experience with Geraldton and to meet their young players and get amongst the basketball community.”

“We’re all looking forward to having them on board with us for the night, cheering us on as we go for another win.”

Not only will the game showcase the best of women’s basketball in this country, it will also provide fans and young basketballers with the opportunity to meet their favourite players.

In the lead up to Saturday’s game, a range of workshops, sessions and clinics have been planned in conjunction with the Geraldton Amateur Basketball Association; all of which will be run by West Coast Waves players and coaches.

No doubt one of the star attractions of the game is WA’s home-grown legend, WNBA and Opals star Tully Bevilaqua, who has had an outstanding run with the Waves so far this season.

Averaging 16 points, eight assists and three steals per game, Bevilaqua is an on-court leader who has lifted the intensity and style of the Waves brand of basketball since joining them this season.

Hosted at the Tip Top Basketball Stadium, this is a huge event for sport in the Midwest and is set to showcase the best of Australian women’s basketball. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased through the stadium or available for sale on the night.
