The Katanning Basketball Association is organising a Basketball Carnival to be held at the Katanning Leisure Centre on Pemble Street, Katanning. All Associations and individual groups are invited to enter teams into the carnival. Winning teams in Men’s & Women’s divisions will receive $1000.

When asked why Katanning was launching this tournament, Dom Pontillo, Katanning Basketball Association’s President told Basketball WA, “it was to provide a Pre-Country Championship Tournament two weeks prior to Country Championships commencing. “

“This would allow teams to adjust to championship-like weekends and team practice against other Associations. Referees for each team would also get to experience the type of game they would be refereeing at Country Championships, so this will help prepare them.”

“In regards to SBL teams, a weekend like this would benefit them by allowing them to experiment with players and plays, create a team-bonding weekend and experience something out of the ordinary with a country venue carnival.”

Dom Pontillo also stated a Carnival like this would promote Basketball in the Central Great Southern and allow other Associations to experience the great sporting facility Katanning Basketball Association has to offer.

“It would also create exposure for Katanning itself and the Basketball Association and provide Associations with a carnival out of the Metropolitan area for a bit of variation.”
