Vale Reg Holmes

On behalf of the WA basketball community, Basketball WA would like to offer our condolences to the Holmes family, following the very sad news of the passing of Reg Holmes yesterday.

Reg was involved scoring in the SBL from the beginning of that competition in 1989 and did every season through to 2012.

He also took a keen interest in the SBL statistics and emailed every SBL General Manager from time beginning with useful information.

Reg was a level 4 scoretable official and really enjoyed doing the shot clock.

He was always keen to help out when he could and did do a lot of training of scorers in the early years of SBL and WABL with Stirling, Wanneroo and a number of other Clubs.

Reg did WNBL (1991-2006) and NBL (1990-2006) games and had a long association with wheelchair sports doing the Domestic competition and National League games.
Reg assisted at National Championships in Perth for all age groups and nothing was too much trouble.

Reg was on the roster just last year for a number of games despite having had a hip operation that had slowed him down, however he was not prepared to not be there and help.

Reg also went interstate, to Victoria and Tasmania and volunteered at National Championships. He also went to the Arafura Games in Darwin and had lots of fun especially on a long run to Katherine Gorge with a group of like minded travellers.

Reg will be missed and our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.

The funeral for Reg will be held on Monday 15 April at 2:00pm at Karrakatta "Brown" Crematorium.
