Basketball WA Announces Inaugural Members of New Advisory Groups

Basketball WA is excited to announce the inaugural members of our newly formed Basketball Operations Advisory Groups, marking a significant step forward in strengthening basketball’s growth and direction across Western Australia.

These advisory groups have been created to ensure our strategic vision and operational plans are informed by those who know and love the game best—our basketball community. They will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the sport, providing valuable insight, and helping to drive meaningful progress across all levels of basketball in WA.

Basketball WA is thrilled by an impressive response to our recent call for expressions of interest, receiving 53 applicants from passionate individuals eager to contribute to the growth of our sport. After a rigorous and competitive selection process, 11 individuals from our community have been appointed to these groups, alongside BWA staff.  This group brings a dynamic mix of experience, including deep involvement in associations, valuable community perspectives, and corporate expertise.

Chief Basketball Officer Tyrone Thwaites is thrilled to welcome the new advisory group members and believes their collective knowledge and experience will be invaluable.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have such highly credentialed and passionate individuals joining our advisory groups. Their knowledge, expertise, and commitment to the game will be instrumental in shaping basketball’s future in Western Australia,” he said,

“The overwhelming interest in these groups shows just how much people care about the direction of our sport. These advisory groups will ensure our decision-making is community-informed, inclusive, and reflective of the voices that make basketball in WA so strong.”

Each advisory group will also report directly to the Chief Basketball Officer through its Chair, ensuring a clear and structured connection between community input and Basketball WA’s executive team.
