On behalf of the Basketball WA Board of Directors, I am delighted to announce Nathan Cave as the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Basketball WA. This decision comes after a detailed, robust, and highly competitive recruitment process.

Nathan is a dedicated executive, with national and international experience who brings to the role a distinct and honed skill set encompassing: leadership, executive level management, revenue acquisition, partnerships, marketing alignment, strategic business planning, nurturing organisational culture, and fostering innovation.

Nathan is a seasoned leader, with the ability to effectively communicate and build strong connections and trust with individuals from diverse backgrounds.  He possesses a strategic mindset, characterised by visionary thinking, and has propelled teams to transcend conventional boundaries and achieve remarkable results.

Beyond his professional achievements, Nathan carries a lifelong passion for Basketball, and this combined with his astute understanding of the corporate landscape will empower him to navigate the intricate intersections of sports and business, to facilitate sustainable growth and success for Basketball WA.

In his own words, Nathan expresses his enthusiasm for his new role saying, “I am excited about the opportunity to lead the strategic direction and commercial priorities of an organisation that plays a pivotal role in improving the lives of Western Australians through basketball. The vision of Basketball WA aligns seamlessly with my values, vision, and professional expertise and I am truly inspired by the dedication and passion of the Board and the Basketball WA team.”

As Chair, I could not be more pleased with Nathan’s appointment. As part of the Board’s commitment to find our next leader, we engaged widely with our stakeholders to determine a Chief Executive Officer Success Profile for Basketball WA encompassing leadership attributes, knowledge, management & leadership competency and previous experience.  Nathan’s depth of experience and knowledge combined with his love for Basketball will see him succeed as Basketball WA’s Chief Executive Officer.

We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to Evan Stewart, who has acted in the role of Chief Executive Officer since April 2023. His contributions have been invaluable during this transitional period.

Congratulations to Nathan for being appointed the new Chief Executive Officer of Basketball WA. Nathan commences in the role on Monday, 27 November 2023. We look forward to working with him and warmly welcome him to the basketball community to lead the strategic direction and vision of Basketball WA.
