2016 U16 State Team Coaching Announcements

Basketball WA is pleased to announce the following coaching appointments to the 2016 Under 16 Metro and Country Men’s and Women’s State Teams.

Tyrone Thwaites (Cockburn) will head up the U16 Metro Men’s team. Tyrone is a bright up and coming coach who won a WABL title this year with Cockburn and also coached the U15 Metro Men’s team at the Southern Cross Challenge earlier in the year.  His knowledge of this age group and enthusiasm will be of great value to the Basketball WA State team program.

Perth Lynx Assistant Coach Tom Knowles will head up the U16 Metro Women’s team. Tom’s experience having assistant coached at a high performance level with the Perth Lynx, West Coast Waves and with previous State teams will make him a valuable addition to Basketball WA’s coaching ranks.

Rob Blyth (BSW) will take the reins of the U16 Country Men’s team. Rob is another coach who has a wealth of experience, having been an assistant coach on previous Country State campaigns. He is sure to put together a hard-nosed competitive Country team.

Rounding out the appointments is Peter Harper (BSW) who is in charge of the U16 Country Women’s team. Peter has a wealth of experience having previously assisted at numerous Australia Junior Championships as well as on Development Tours. He is also the State Performance Program Network Coach in the South-West region. His addition to the State team program is a just reward for his hard work in the Country and in the Basketball WA Development Programs.

The U16 Australian Junior Championships will be held in Kilsyth, Victoria from 2-9 July 2016.

Note: Trials for this age group will take place at Bendat Basketball Centre from 9-10 January 2016 (for Country athletes) and 10 January (for Metro athletes). Athletes must register online at the Basketball WA website.
